Le-Fort Organic Crops

Le-Fort Farms, located in Creston, is operated by Dolores Howard and Roberto Le-Fort, in which they manage produce like carrots and herbs and care for a multitude of chickens.

Le-Fort Farms will be selling:

  • Eggs

  • Carrots

  • Mint

  • Rosemary

  • Oregano

  • Bay Leaf

They are preparing to sell during the summer, in addition to what is mentioned above, bok choy, cilantro, kale, a spring salad mix, Italian, Thai, lemon, and purple basil, cherries, a variety of squashes, fava beans, spinach, and apricots, plums, and peaches. Their favorite item at the moment, basil, is $3 for a bunch. For more information, you can contact Dolores and Roberto at (805) 438-3081, or by email: lefortsorganiccrops@gmail.com. The owners enjoy using their basil to create a pesto sauce in which they blend basil, roasted garlic, olive oil, and almonds. This is also possible with carrot tops!

The farm, which is proudly organic, has received grants to perform more sustainable practices. Four years ago, they redid all irrigation systems, making them much more efficient and meanwhile, saving water. The couple installed coop houses and misters, and planted trees to keep their animals cool and provide natural shade.

In addition to this, they received a grant to install a riparian buffer strip to restore a nearby creek, which is a vegetated area that aids in shading and protecting a stream to avoid impact from land that is in use. Riparian buffers are primarily used to increase water quality, accordingly, supporting environmental benefits. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the farm has had time to transition into practices that are more wildlife friendly.

During COVID-19, Le-Fort Farms are not doing deliveries, but are planning on doing a CSA soon, which stands for community supported agriculture, once a week from their farm. Though this definition is quite broad, a CSA is usually associated with a box full of fruits and vegetables that are picked up at the farm. Before this adjustment, they had been participating in the local farmers market for 20 years.

Once things settle down, be sure to visit and support Le-Fort Farms at Farmers Market! In the meantime, their Certified Humane eggs, as well as Certified Organic carrots, and herbs are available for purchase at Caliwala Market in Santa Margarita. Furthermore, their Certified Humane eggs are also available at San Luis Obispo Natural Foods. I've tried them personally and they're amazing so go get 'em while they last!

Stay well,

Talia & Emily

About Us:

Welcome! We are so glad you are here. This site was inspired by our desire to help local farmers and business owners on the Central Coast get through this difficult time. We began this project in April 2020 when we were freshmen at San Luis Obispo High School, enrolled in an agriculture biology class, which requires a project related to agriculture every trimester. We have continued this project throughout our time in high school.

We hope our time aids in shining a light on local farmers and business owners on the Central Coast while significantly decreasing the amount of wasted food.

Additioanlly, we'd like to thank our agriculture teachers Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Evans for their continued support.
