Rocking MC Ranch

Since 1887, Rocking MC Ranch has been growing a variety of citrus and olives in the Edna Valley, five miles south of San Luis Obispo off Orcutt Road. Today, the farm is run by specialty farming manager Bob Middlecamp. The farm was originally owned by his great grandfather, Robertino Righetti in 1887. It was then passed down to his grandfather, Guido, who then gave 140 acres of the farm to his mother, and now to him.

The farm can be seen at the Saturday morning Farmers' Market, where they sell olive oil and a variety of citrus, ranging from Eureka and Meyer lemons, two types of oranges, limes, persimmons, figs, avocados, apples and apricots. The manager shared that his fruits are best consumed fresh, although he also enjoys preparing unstrained applesauce. Rocking MC Ranch is famous for their olive oil as they have 150 olive trees. They make their own olive oil by picking their own grown olives, sending it to a mill in Creston, and bringing it home in barrels, which are then transferred to smaller bottles. They sell three different olive oil bottle sizes:

  • quarter liter (250mL): $12

  • half liter (500mL): $20

  • 3/4 liter (750mL): $30

Rocking MC Farm reported that they haven't seen any slow down in sales as a result of the pandemic, although customers are asked to come prepared and follow COVID-19 guidelines, meaning wearing a mask and potentially gloves. The farm has also added the use of face shields and hand sanitizers at the farmers' market.

About Us:

Welcome! We are so glad you are here. This site was inspired by our desire to help local farmers and business owners on the Central Coast get through this difficult time. We began this project in April 2020 when we were freshmen at San Luis Obispo High School, enrolled in an agriculture biology class, which requires a project related to agriculture every trimester. We have continued this project throughout our time in high school.

We hope our time aids in shining a light on local farmers and business owners on the Central Coast while significantly decreasing the amount of wasted food.

Additioanlly, we'd like to thank our agriculture teachers Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Evans for their continued support.
