Kiler Canyon Farm

Kiler Canyon Farm, located on 4450 Kiler Canyon Rd. in West Paso Robles, has been farming and growing produce for the last 20 years. Kiler Canyon Farm was the first in the community to start CSA boxes, and they have been supplying the community with their produce up until 2017. However, the owner says they haven’t been farming the last two years, due to her other job, being an organic inspector. But since the shelter-at-home order has prevented her from traveling across states to inspect organic farms, Kiler Canyon Farms has taken up farming again, due to the fear of food shortage. This time, they plan to do direct marketing to retailers, or start a CSA again, with a slightly different approach.

The CSA box would consist mainly of storage crops. The owner says they have planted garlic, yellow potatoes, and purple and orange sweet potatoes, all of which will be ready before August. The owner shared that her CSA boxes would come with a weekly newsletter that included recipes. She shared that she is growing storage crops of garlic and likes to make a garlic scape salad dressing from her hard necked garlic. You simply cut off the scape, which has a unique, pungent, green garlic flavor, and put it in the food processor along with dill, greek yogurt, salt, manyose, and lemon juice. Once finished, it’s best on top of mixed greens.

We can’t wait for Kiler Canyon Farm’s crops once again!

About Us:

Welcome! We are so glad you are here. This site was inspired by our desire to help local farmers and business owners on the Central Coast get through this difficult time. We began this project in April 2020 when we were freshmen at San Luis Obispo High School, enrolled in an agriculture biology class, which requires a project related to agriculture every trimester. We have continued this project throughout our time in high school.

We hope our time aids in shining a light on local farmers and business owners on the Central Coast while significantly decreasing the amount of wasted food.

Additioanlly, we'd like to thank our agriculture teachers Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Evans for their continued support.
